Last week Recap: When You Pray God Moves.
• Prayer is the steering wheel of our lives and not the spare tire.
• Jesus Himself is behind that steering wheel.
• When you pray God moves. God does not move unless you pray! The “you” is important because prayer is an expression of that relationship between you and God.
When You Speak Mountains Move!
What is a mountain?
A mountain is anything in your life that is in the way of God’s best for your life. Anything that is stopping you from doing what God has called you to do.
When you speak mountains move. The “you” here is also important. It’s a reflection of faith in the God you serve and the relationship you have with Him.
OPENING SCRIPTURE:
“I tell you the truth, if you had FAITH even as small as a mustard seed, you could SAY to this MOUNTAIN, ‘MOVE from here to there,’ and it would MOVE. Nothing would be impossible (Matthew 17:20 NLT)
• Our faith is based on that relationship. This relationship is developed through prayer.
Mark chapter 11: Jesus’ Triumphant Entry.
Jesus curses the fig tree, and it died.
Jesus said: “May no one ever eat your FRUIT again!” (Mark 11:14 NLT)
Why? The tree had leaves but there were no fruits.
Jesus clears the temple.
“My Temple will be called a house of PRAYER for all nations,’ but you have turned it into a den of thieves.” (Mark 11:17 NLT)
Why? Because the people had turned the church into something other than a house of prayer. In other words, they did not value prayer.
Jesus was making a point: Prayer and Fruits go hand in hand.
Jesus was making a point: Prayer creates the perfect soil for the fruits of the Holy Spirit to grow in us.
But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things! (Galatians 5:22-23 NLT)
• Prayer is key to us producing these fruits.
The next morning as they passed by the fig tree he had cursed, the disciples noticed it had withered from the roots up. Peter remembered what Jesus had said to the tree on the previous day and exclaimed, “Look, Rabbi! The fig tree you cursed has withered and died!” (Mark 11:20-21 NLT)
• We can conclude that the disciples had no clue why Jesus did what he did.
Teachable moment
Then Jesus said to the disciples, “HAVE FAITH IN GOD”. (Mark 11:22 NLT)
• It means put your trust in Him
• It means take God at His Word
• It means say what God is saying. Key to our faith.
And since we have the same spirit of FAITH, ACCORDING TO WHAT IS WRITTEN, “I believed and therefore I spoke,” we also believe and therefore speak (2 Corinthians 4:13 NKJ)
• Because of that faith in God, Faith that is based on God’s Word. Based on what He is saying, you can speak to that mountain.
I tell you the truth, YOU CAN SAY TO THIS MOUNTAIN, ‘May you be lifted up and thrown into the sea,’ and it will happen. But you must really believe it will happen and have no doubt in your heart. I tell you, you can pray for anything, and if you believe that you’ve received it, it will be yours. (Mark 11:23-24 NLT)
• There comes of moment where you must directly to mountains in your life and start talking to them about your God.
• Speak to The Mountains: You proclaim His power. You declare His sovereignty. You affirm His faithfulness. You stand on His word. You cling to His promises.
But when you are praying, first forgive anyone you are holding a grudge against, so that your Father in heaven will forgive your sins, too. (Mark 11:25 NLT)
• Jesus ties in the importance of forgiveness to our prayer life and our faith.
• How can we speak to the other mountains when the biggest mountain in our life is unforgiveness?
