EXPECTATION (Biblical definition): Expectation is based on hope which is a confident expectation. Hope that is based on what God says.
OPENING SCRIPTURE
Then they came to Jericho. As Jesus and his disciples, together with a large crowd, were leaving the city, a blind man, Bartimaeus (which means “son of Timaeus”), was sitting by the roadside begging. WHEN HE HEARD that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to shout, “JESUS, SON OF DAVID, HAVE MERCY ON ME!” (Mark 10:46-47 NIV)
• “When he heard”: His expectation for a miracle was already set into motion.
• Blind Bartimaeus raised his own expectation by using his voice. The sound of expectation.
Don’t set your expectations based on what you know but instead on what God says!
Don’t allow the pressure rob your expectation. Give a voice to your expectation!
WHEN HE HEARD that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to shout, “JESUS, SON OF DAVID, HAVE MERCY ON ME!”
• He was not about to allow his blindness stop his blessing.
Many rebuked him and told him to be quiet, but he shouted all the more, “SON OF DAVID, HAVE MERCY ON ME!” (Mark 10: 48 NIV)
• Many tried to silence him, but his expectation had a voice.
Jesus stopped and said, “Call him.” (Mark 10:49 NIV)
Don’t stop calling out His name. There is a cry that will stop Jesus for you.
So they called to the blind man, “Cheer up! On your feet! He’s calling you.” THROWING HIS CLOAK ASIDE, he jumped to his feet and came to Jesus. “What do you want me to do for you?” Jesus asked him. The blind man said, “RABBI, I WANT TO SEE.” (Mark 10:49-51 NIV)
• He was standing in the presence of almighty God, what he needed was valuable.
• God’s mercy: His forgiveness, His redemption, His healing and restoration.
• He threw his old coat aside because that represented his old life as a blind beggar.
• He shifted from the sound of expectation to the sight of expectation: “Rabbi, I want to see.”
“Go,” said Jesus, “YOUR FAITH HAS HEALED YOU.” Immediately he received his sight and FOLLOWED JESUS along the road. (Mark 10:52 NIV)
#1: He made a choice to follow Jesus
• His healing was not just physical… it was also an inner transformation.
#2: Blind Bartimaeus was not blind after all
• He might have been physically blind, but spiritually he was not.
Faith shows the reality of what we HOPE for; it is the evidence of things we cannot see. (Hebrews 11:1 NLT)
• The evidence of our faith might not be seen, that is the sight that is required for expectation.
