1. Rock of Ages
He is our rock of ages.
Definition of rock: a naturally occurring and coherent aggregate
Definition of age: The length of time that a person has lived, or a thing has existed.
God is solid. Forever.
Synonyms of coherent:
CONSISTENT
UNDERSTANDABLE
COHESIVE and COORDINATED
Is God not consistent, understandable, cohesive and coordinated in our lives? God is consistent as in He’ll never give up and leave us. He is understandable. He gets us. He is coordinated and cohesive…He never sways.
Scripture: Psalms 18:2
The Lord is my ROCK, my FORTRESS and my DELIVERER; my God is my rock whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation.
Story of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego in Daniel 3
• God is consistent and cohesive and coordinated.
• He protected those 3 and wasn’t even worried about them.
• When you are going through fires and trials, God will cover and help you too.
• God is with you.
Scripture: Isaiah 41:10 Amp
‘Do not fear [anything], for I am with you; Do not be afraid, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you, be assured I will help you; I will certainly take hold of you with My righteous right hand [a hand of justice, of power, of victory, of salvation].’
• What a refreshing reminder.
• We don’t have to fear ANYTHING, not the flames of life, the flames of others, or even the flames we place on ourselves.
• We don’t even have to fear what the enemy throws our way. God will be with us just like He was with Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego.
Statement: Be assured that he will help us. He’s CONSISTENT. He will grab us with the hand of victory. We have already won the battle.
2. Strength in Numbers
One thing I think helped is that Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego were together.
We are stronger when there’s a group of believers that are helping and working together. When we’re uplifting each other.
*Examples of the world seeing the value of supporting one another*
If they all saw the value of being there for one another, then how much more important is it for us as Christians to get this? Not just to get it, but to grasp it and to use it. When you’re going into battle you want others with you. Firefighters don’t put a huge fire out by themselves. They have a crew.
That’s why going to church, being engaged in church, and belonging to a church is so important.
Scripture: Proverbs 27:17
So as iron sharpens, So one man sharpens another.
Scripture: Matthew 18:20
For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.”
3. Way Maker
Scripture: Isaiah 43:2
When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.
• That’s a way maker. This is the COHESIVE and COORDINATED side of God.
• When we pass the waters He is with us, the rivers won’t sweep us.
• When we walk through the fire we won’t be set ablaze. Nothing will “throw God off.” God isn’t scared or worried. He isn’t phased.
• Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego were in the fire and He made a way for them. He will make a way for us. He knew they were going to be tied up and thrown in the heat.
• He is the light in the darkness.
• He will grab us with his righteous right hand. When the fire of life is 7x hotter, we won’t be burned.
Statement: God is CONSISTANT, COHESIVE, COORDINATED and UNDERSTANDABLE. He is the rock of ages, the unwavering rock.
Closing and Scripture reminder: Psalms 18:2
• The lord is my ROCK, my FORTRESS and my DELIVERER; my God is my rock whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation.
• He was this for Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego and he will be this for us.
• What is the Holy Spirit reminding you and I through this message?
