Planning Ahead (Part 3)

February 9, 2025

SERIES THEME SCRIPTURE:

You can make many PLANS, but the Lord’s PURPOSE will prevail. (Proverbs 19:21 NLT)

Movement and Alignment: Our movement when our plans and God’s purpose are aligned.

Movement and Alignment are both important for planning ahead and to fulfil God’s vision.

OPENING SCRIPTURE:

I will climb up to my watchtower and stand at my guardpost. There I will wait to see what the Lord says and how he will answer my complaint. (Habakkuk 2:1 NLT)

Movement: “I will climb up to my watchtower and stand at my guardpost.”

Alignment: “There I will wait to see what the Lord says”. I will alignment my what the Lord says.

Then the Lord said to me, “Write my answer plainly on tablets, so that a runner can carry the correct message to others. This vision is for a future time. It describes the end, and it will be fulfilled. If it seems slow in coming, wait patiently, for it will surely take place. It will not be delayed.” (Habakkuk 2:2-3 NLT)

3 main action plans: Write, Trust, and Wait.

#1: WRITE THE VISION CLEARLY

WRITE MY ANSWER PLAINLY on tablets, so that a runner can carry the correct message to others (Habakkuk 2:1 NLT)

• God instructs Habakkuk to write the vision plainly so that it can be easily understood and carried out.
• A clear vision brings purpose and direction to our lives.
• Writing the vision down is not just about clarity but it is about accountability and safety

“Where there is NO VISION, the people PERISH…” (Proverbs 29:18 KJV)

• Without vision, there is confusion which leads to chaos.
• Imagine a builder working on a house without blueprints.

The vision will always be alignment with the word of God. The word of God is our navigation instrument.

“YOUR WORD is a LAMP to my feet and a LIGHT to my path.” (Psalm 119:105 NIV)

• The word of God illuminates our path. Keeping us aligned with His guidance.

#2: TRUST THE TIMING OF THE VISION

THIS VISION IS FOR A FUTURE TIME. It describes the end, and it will be fulfilled. (Habakkuk 2:2 NLT)

• You have to trust the fact that God has the right timing for the vision.

“There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.” (Ecclesiastes 3:1 NIV)

• God’s timing is always perfect, but it often doesn’t align with our expectations.
• God wants to teach us that every season has a purpose.

“THE LORD IS GOOD TO THOSE WHO WAIT FOR HIM, to the soul who seeks him. It is good that one should wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord.” (Lamentations 3:25-26 ESV)

Waiting on God is not passive—it’s an act of faith and trust.

Abraham and Sarah waited 25 years for the fulfillment of God’s promise of a son. Though they stumbled at times, God remained faithful.

#3: STAY PATIENT AND FAITHFUL

If it seems slow in coming, WAIT PATIENTLY, for it WILL SURELY TAKE PLACE. It will not be delayed. (Habakkuk 2:3 NLT)

• His vision may seem delayed, but it will come to pass. This requires patience and faithfulness.

“But those who WAIT ON THE LORD shall RENEW THEIR STRENGTH; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall RUN AND NOT BE WEARY, they shall WALK AND NOT FAINT.” (Isaiah 40:31 NKJV)

• Waiting on God produces renewed strength
• Waiting on God produces perseverance

Think of Joseph – given a vision of leadership at age 17 but waited 13 years—through betrayal, slavery, and imprisonment—before the vision was fulfilled. Joseph’s faithfulness during those years positioned him for God’s perfect timing.
