IT IS FOR FREEDOM THAT CHRIST HAS SET US FREE. STAND FIRM, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery. (Galatians 5:1 NIV)
• From that place of freedom there is no condemnation
Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, 2 because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death. (Romans 8:1-2 NIV)
• That cycle is broken because the Spirit of God has found a place to reside inside.
Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. (2 Corinthians 3:17 NIV)
• A broken cycle is an open invitation for the spirit of God
When that cycle is broken, you are not the only beneficiary of that freedom. There’s an entire generation that comes behind you that would enjoy that freedom.
The angel of the Lord appeared to him (Gideon) and said, “MIGHTY HERO, THE LORD IS WITH YOU!” (Judges 6:11 NLT)
• Why did God approach Gideon like that? He has forgotten who he was.
• Gideon here has forgotten the real meaning of his name. Gideon means: Destroyer.
God was looking at Gideon to not only break the cycle in his own life but in his generation.
“Sir,” Gideon replied, “if the Lord is with us, why has all this happened to us? And where are all the miracles our ancestors told us about? Didn’t they say, ‘The Lord brought us up out of Egypt’? But now the Lord has abandoned us and handed us over to the Midianites.” (Judges 6:13 NLT)
• Gideon’s generation has totally forgotten how God miraculously delivered them from slavery.
Then the Lord turned to him and said, “GO WITH THE STRENGTH YOU HAVE, AND RESCUE ISRAEL FROM THE MIDIANITES. I AM SENDING YOU!” (Judges 6:14 NLT)
• ON THAT DAY, GIDEON UNDERSTOOD THE REAL MEANING OF HIS NAME: DESTROYER
• Later on in chapter 6, Gideon destroyed the temple of Baal and the people started to call him: Jerubbaal- (Baal Destroyer). The real meaning behind his name.
The story of Gideon is more than just the battle with an army of 300 men. It’s also a story about God restoring the identity of a man. It is about breaking a cycle of defeat. It is about changing a generation.
